The Last one :(

Age?
20

Sex?
Female

What is your degree subject (both if joint)?
Social Care and Social Policy

Does ‘Being Bad’ relate well to the other modules you are taking?
Not quite sure about that one to be honest but I found it interesting non-the less

If so, how? And if not, why not?
I think it’s more about general life where as my degree tends to focus on specific parts of life

Have you found ‘Being Bad’ too demanding, too easy, or at an appropriate level?
The only thing I found difficult was the time which the lecture took place

Do you think the list of topics covered on the module was appropriate?
I though the topics were perfectly appropriate

Are there any topics not included in the module that you would like to see included?
Some of the ones I have mentioned in this blog would have been good to go further into depth with

Do you think that the format for classes has worked well?
Yes apart from its time slot

What did you think of the module team?
Generally good however I found some staff acted as though a few childish people spoke for all of us and acted as if all of us needed treating like children

Do you think it would have been better to have had more:
Small group discussions?
I think we did well with the ones we had

Discussion and debate among the class as a whole?
That was also a good amount though I thought this is what lead to some childishness.

Information and talk from lecturers?
Possibly less. For example though I enjoyed the body modification lecture ( I was one of only a dozen that stayed till it was finished) it did go on past the lecture time slot

The approach taken in the module is interdisciplinary (drawing on perspectives from English Literature, Film Studies, Creative Writing, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Media Studies and Politics): do you think this a useful way of approaching the topics covered in the module?
I think this meant that all of us understood it so it was a good thing.

Do you think that interdisciplinary modules are a good idea?
Yes for the mention I have already given

Do you think you have benefited from the interdisciplinary approach taken in the module?
Yes it helped me to enjoy the module as well as learning from it.

Would you like to see more modules that cover this kind of subject matter?
Yes please!

Are you planning to take the follow-up module PH2004 ‘It Shouldn’t Be Allowed’ at level 2?
If I can Yes

Would you recommend ‘Being Bad’ to a friend?
Already have

Do you think that the blogs (web logs) were a good idea?
Not really for example I have had to apply for an extension because my computer broke down

What did you think of the other assessments (e.g. would it be better to have one longer assessment rather than two shorter ones?)?
Not sure about the short story option as it does not seem like work more like school.

What have you learned from the module?
Mainly about body modification stuff (I really did like the lecture) and just expanding on the knowledge I already have.

What parts of the module have you found most useful and why?
Lectures were good they helped me to see other people’s point of view.

What parts do you think were a waste of time and why?
Some of the assignment options didn’t seem worth the percentages given to them.

Are there any other comments you wish to make regarding ‘Being Bad’?
Other then I like the module I do not have any other comments

Tax, Insurance, and MOT

Yes yes yes I know yet another blog that involves a vehicle (hey I like them and cars have alot to do with 'being bad')
Most people think that not having insurance tax and MOT is not a bad thing and that they were only created so the government can get more money from average Joe. In some cases I would agree however not having insurance or MOT is just unbelievably stupid. Not only does it mean that the damage done to the vehicles in any accident can not be paid for it also means if a person gets hurt including the person with no car insurance no compensation can be given which could leave alot of people in financial trouble. This is also made worse as most people do not get insurance because they do not have an MOT. The most likely reason for this is that the car they are driving is not road worthy and is more likely to cause accidents than a car that is road worthy.
In all yes not having Tax Insurance and MOT is cheaper and more convenient in the short time but can cost alot more in the long term which can include death and imprisonment.
This site will give you quotes on car insurancehttp://www.elephant.co.uk/?media=adwo5 and this site will tell you where you can get MOTs done http://www.ukmot.com/.
Hope this helps people who don't have these things change their mind and get one at least.

Joy Riding

If you don't know what joy riding is i think you have had your head in the sand for a long time. Look at this site if you have had your head in the sand. http://www.cliconline.co.uk/default.asp?conid=1419
As the picture with this blog shows joy riding sometimes has very bad consequences. I think the main reason for joy riding being so bad is that the people who do joy riding are either to young to drive or even not old enough to learn to. Or the have been disqualified from driving because they are bad at it. This is yet another example of 'being bad' which worries me because I have now done a large number of blogs each of which has another bad thing as its subject. This just shows that there are many bad things in this world and many people who do them.

Car boots?

Are they bad. well when you say the word car boot (for those who don't know what a car boot is it is when you go on a field with lots of other people and get stuff out your car (that you have brought from home)and sell it on tables) no one thinks they are. But they do not think. Is it bad when you have paid a small fortune for a crystal vase or a collectable toy and people will only give you 20p for it. I would say yes as I have been selling some of my old stuff at car boots for the past 2 months and its takes alot of hard work to get a measly 20p of someone. Over all I would say its not that bad because you get rid of stuff you don't want no more (clean out the rammed storage space) and get money you didn't have before (even if it is only 20p). There is another side to car boots that people would say is not bad but it is illegal. DVD copies of movies that are on at the cinema sell for 3 for £5 or 7 for £10. which is a bargain for those who have to take the whole family when they go to the cinema but still can cause problem for customs and excise and for trading standards as most of these discs are copies made by illegal immigrants who have to pay of drug debts the the DVD sellers ( Might sound far stretched but I kinda know one or two people who do this stuff). Anyway who would of thought that a car boot could contain so much bad. If you want to check out the possible dangers at car boots this website tell you where they are http://www.carbootjunction.com/

Bad Cinema 'Kids'

Well yet another lecture I failed to go to (Thursdays are really bad for me) but this was out of choice. The idea of bad cinema did not interest me much, but from what other people have said I wish I had gone now. Although I was told that the film was quite nasty I was also told that it showed things that happen in real life but people failed to notice it. Apparently this kid is HIV positive and goes round finding virgins to give it to (he needs his head sorting out if you ask me) and one girl he gave it to is going around trying to find him and worn others about him. This is not to far from real life as not long ago an immigrant did this to several British ladies who did get HIV of him.
For all the stupid idiots (like me) who thought it wouldn't be worth going to see the film click this link to find out more about it. http://imdb.com/title/tt0113540/

Being to Religious

I did not much like the structure of this lecture as it seemed to be a bit formal and not what I expected using the other lectures as a reference. Any way back to the subject

I do think there is such a thing as being to religious. This (in my opinion) happens when other people try to convert you to their beliefs such a Jehovah's witnesses knocking on your door every week even if you have already told them you are not interested, and people not wishing to have medical treatment to save their lives because 'God will Save them'.

However being a bit religious myself I do think that anyone can think and believe what they want to and so will I. My idea of religion is that it is their for anyone that wants it and still there if people don't, waiting just in case and that in some cases religion can be helpful to those who are going through testing times, whether it be the loss of a family member or trying to quit a bad habit. This link gives you loads of information on different religions just in case the lecture got you interested. http://www.religioustolerance.org/

Comment 5 (Fran R's)

This is a comment on Fran. R's Blog and shoplifting it was published on 13 February 2007 at 07:29. This is the link to it. http://allornot18.blogspot.com/

A the same with Ellie blog I think the use of statistics is sometimes useful when describing things and the the fact that Fran has also added opinions from others and her own helps to create a full picture rather then a fraction of one. All of her blogs seem to create full images and I take my hat (well would if I wore one) off to her.

Comment 4 (Francesca. F's)

This is a response made to Fran's blog which was written on 28 April 2007 at 09:57 http://ffinnegan.blogspot.com/
which was entitled Nasty Comedians....

I believe that many people think the way that fran does. I myself enjoy Roy Chubby Brown considering he would destroy me if he were to spot me in on of his audiences. And the fact that Little Britain is an award winning comedy despite some of the sketches they do is a mystery to many people. But they do so it must mean that others think as Fran and I do. Here is Chubbys website http://www.chubbybrown.biz/

Betrayal

To be honest I do think that this idea is going to far into what could be seen as 100% 'being bad'. But we did do some work on it in lectures so it can't be that far in. Betrayal to most people is a bad thing as well as being a thing that most would consider the worst thing you could possibly do to friend or family. Betrayal counts for many different acts as both infidelity and lying can be seen as betrayal but it is usually only the worst of these acts that are actually called betrayal. The idea that betrayal is a concept behind many bad things is an important one and should give anyone reading this things to think about. Maybe Betrayal is the only true being bad thing and that it is the others that are created from it and not the other way round which is the way many people think. Have a think about it. to read more about betrayal and it effect click on the following link http://changingminds.org/explanations/trust/effects_of_betrayal.htm

Comment 3 (Mandeeps Blog)

This is a comment made towards a post written by Mandeep Dhillon on 25 April 2007 at 19:45 entitled
MURDER!!!!!! http://mkvdhillon.blogspot.com/

I am not sure why Mandy posted murder as a subject as i thought that the idea was to post on things that were questionably bad and not an almost unanimously bad. In my opinion it is bad and I believe that there will never be a point where it is seen by the majority as good.

Lying

I know that lying can be seen as a part in many of the blogs that I have done but I felt that I required one on its own as it can also take place on its own and not as any of the reasons I have given in my blogs so far.
For example some people would say that it is wrong if you lie to your parents if they specifically asked you an important question. However can it also be said that lying is a good thing in that case if the lie will protect your parents from harm. I do not wish to give specific reasons as this may put me in danger as I have done this many times to protect my Mothers 'Happiness'.

I think this can place many people in a personal dilemma as some may not want to lie to their parents but would still protect their happiness at any cost. Maybe people reading this could think of this and give their opinion in my comments (I know it won't get marked but I thought it is a really interesting subject that people may be interested in) Oh P.S this site gives good information to help you tell if someone is lying by using their eyes. http://www.blifaloo.com/info/lies_eyes.php

Comment 2 (Julie's Blog)

This is a comment on Julie Mills post written on 19 March 2007 with the subject of 'Bandits and Outlaws' http://www.cardonessplace-jules.blogspot.com/
I think that Julie’s fascination with the old black and white gangster films is the same as many people the world over. This helps to emphasise what I said in my own blog on the bandits and outlaws lecture.
This is the link that Julie provided for her blog entry and I agree with her that it is a most useful link if you want information on Al Capone

Gambling

GAMBLING? Is it wrong. Well if you are going by the law then no. BUT.
Having a gambling problem could be seen as wrong which makes admitting you have a problem even more difficult to do.
For example my mother refuses to even consider that she may have a problem even though she would quite happily go to bingo every night of the week. To be quite honest I think bingo is a major gambling problem as many people do not think that bingo is gambling and just see it as fun and a way to win lots of money (or if you are me hardly win anything except the occasional tenner). Other forms of gambling such as poker or slot machines are just as bad as you can easily lose track of what you are doing and how much you are spending.
It is that bad that in Las Vegas they have slot machines that you can put your credit card into and you can play up to your credit limit.

'Bunking off'

Normally I would not have mentioned this (those who know me don't say anything) but on my way to the main post office in town a few weeks back I noticed 2 young kids (couldn't be older then 12) talking to 2 of the well known 'town tramps' in the alley way by the banks in queen square. It looked a bit odd to me but I said nothing as it was not my business. As I left the alley way I saw a policeman in a normal car and was thinking to flag him down to tell him. But i didn't need to do it as at that moment the 2 kids came walking past me and the policeman saw them. Me being the nosy so and so I am decided to stop and watch *lol*. It turns out the police had been looking for them because there mom mad reported them missing after the school called to ask why they were no there. After it was all sorted I asked the policemen about it and we had a chat about when you get older you realise that playing truant is not the best option and the policeman said that he himself had done it on many an occasion. We said that even though many see it as bad when you are young you do not see the dangers that can arise from 'bunking off', but even if we did we thought that it wouldn't stop it.

Body Modification

This Lecture was the best yet although it ran over by 30 minutes. This was OK though because this meant at 8 we got a brake so that people could leave and not see the pictures after (which were supposed to be more gruesome though to be honest weren't that much). I was amazed that most forms of body modification started of as tribal traditions and that some of these body modifications had great meanings to them and were not just for looks (though apparently that was always a consideration (its all about sex apparently)). I also found it interesting that most of the so called tribal tattoos are no more then a bunch of doodles and that in most cases they have no meaning to them at all. The most interesting point however of the entire lecture was that the facial tattoos that Maori have are not for decoration but were in fact the identity of a person. Each swirl or line meant something to do with that persons life and the people who copy these tattoos are taking away a person's identity.

If you click the following link it will take you to some information on the Maori and the tattoos that they have done.

Bandits and Outlaws

The lecture was not the best. This was probably due to my lack of interest in the subject despite the fact that I chose to use one of the Bandit and Outlaw titles for my 300 word shiort story and 300 word rationale ‘Fight to the Finish’
First line: “They had been betrayed.”. However non the less I am still required to write a blog about the subject so here goes.

The mention of Robin Hood Jesse James, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and some other well known bandits and outlaws made me think that most of these kind of people are famous and they are famous because people saw them as both bad and good people. Why people saw them this way was different in each cases but the basics were very similar. This is all due to differences in opinion and the belief that the bad they do is for a good cause.

infidelity

Well to be honest I was a bit shocked about the subject. Maybe I was being naive to think that infidelity is always considered as a bad thing and that no-one would think that it was a reasonable option. HOW WRONG WAS I.

Not only do many people see infidelity as a solution to a problematic relationships there are websites that help these people to meet with others to have an affair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And to be honest when the discussion we had in the lecture was over I found that in some cases I myself may see it as a way out and that maybe it is not so bad after all.

Stalking

Peep Show, 2005, Objective Productions. When does a concerned interest in someones activities become stalking? I cannot say that there is a definitive time when this occurs. I believe that the one does not turn into another within seconds I think that over time it can become stalking and the person doing it may not even realise that they are doing it.Are some kinds of observance allowable and appropriate? If so which ones?If it is truly for a persons safety then I think it is OK, but even then I think there is a limit. Security for example. They are hired to observe a people and to make sure that they are OK. This means that they can then intervene if something goes wrong. But watching a person that closely for personal gain is completely wrong. Prostitution

Breakfast at Tiffany's, 1961, Paramount. Is it prostitution to take money from someone who is expecting sex, but then do not supply it?I do not think it is. That is more like theft then prostitution. I would say that it is only prostitution if you actually provided the service. If it isn't prostitution then is it more or less socially acceptable?I believe that it depends on the circumstances. In the clip we watched I think it was socially acceptable, but if the service was completely agreed then it is not.If it is prostitution, then how much is a reasonable charge? As I do not think that it is prostitution I do not think there is a reasonable charge. But for actual prostitution I believe that a reasonable charge would be whatever the supplier would think was OK.

Shoplifting

Is shoplifting any different to any other kind of theft?
We were shown a clip 'breaking Out is Hard To Do', Family Guy, 2005, Fox. In the clip the mother character developed a liking to steal anything she could find, (can be called kleptomania). Although this was only to give us an example I found it useful to answer the question. To the character in question there was a difference as she felt it was OK to do this. However I do not agree with this. Theft is theft and it does not matter if it is against one person or a major corporation.

Why do people who can afford to buy things shop lift them instead?
Having dealt with this due to friends at senior school I think I know why. I believe that it is mainly for the thrill of doing it and getting away with it as in many cases the thief is never caught and the theft is not discovered until a stock check is done.
wrong.

However they do show the true percentages of people that do smoke and what type of people they are.

Smoking

IS SMOKING BAD?
Smoking has not always been seen as 'being bad', for many years it was encouraged and publicised through media and films and from the general public. So is it bad, technically yes. This is only because it has been proven to cause damage to the human body in many different ways. This is the kajor problem that we all face. The general population only see smoking as 'being bad' because they have been told that smoking can harm you (for further information that can show the effects please click on the following link http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/medical_notes/473673.stm). But if you talk to some people when they think no one is listening then you will find that they see smoking as fine and not bad and that it is one of the few 'pleasures' that they can have. So the question still stands, is smoking 'bad' or do we think that it is because we have been told to think that way.

Greebos and Goths

Recently I was at a meeting of my church's youth fellowship and a thought came to my mind. 'Being bad' can mean several things and just because you dress or look like a certain type of person does not mean that you are. For example my sister and her friends are what is most commonly known as a 'greebos' or 'goths' (see left) . However as I sat in the church meeting I found looking around apart from myself and the other adults present all the youths there were 'greebos' or 'goths' and that I have know many of them since they were babies and have never known any of them to do anything 'bad' that people think they do and that most spend their time with the church, at school, or up town window shopping and trying on clothes they can't afford like any other average teenager. Its just the beginning

So as the start of Semester 2 begins I learn that a large percentage of my grade for PH1000 is to do a blog and to maintain it for majority of the semester. Since I have never used a blog and until recently did not know what one is (there was a story on the news about them) I was worried that I would not be able to do this. Although it is not easy it is OK to do and to all PH1000 students from Wolverhampton that read this more help can be found on wolf http://wolf-nt.wlv.ac.uk/common/newmodlogin.asp?orgid=wlv (don't forget you must log in) and then go to group folders and then weblog assignment. It also suggests that I should suggest a Module field trip to an inappropriate place so my vote goes to Alton Towers click on the following link to look at the site http://www.altontowers.com/
