This Lecture was the best yet although it ran over by 30 minutes. This was OK though because this meant at 8 we got a brake so that people could leave and not see the pictures after (which were supposed to be more gruesome though to be honest weren't that much). I was amazed that most forms of body modification started of as tribal traditions and that some of these body modifications had great meanings to them and were not just for looks (though apparently that was always a consideration (its all about sex apparently)). I also found it interesting that most of the so called tribal tattoos are no more then a bunch of doodles and that in most cases they have no meaning to them at all. The most interesting point however of the entire lecture was that the facial tattoos that Maori have are not for decoration but were in fact the identity of a person. Each swirl or line meant something to do with that persons life and the people who copy these tattoos are taking away a person's identity. If you click the following link it will take you to some information on the Maori and the tattoos that they have done.
